International Day of Sign Languages

Expression Australia would like to invite you to participate in a Sign Language challenge to celebrate the International Day of Sign Languages that takes place on Thursday, 23 September 2021.

It's a great opportunity to create an inclusive social media post that celebrates the language used by Deaf and hard of hearing people all around the world.

Have you ever learnt to sign a phrase in Auslan?

Here in Australia, Auslan is the Sign Language that is used by the Australian Deaf community every day.

You may have seen Auslan being used at the Press Conferences interpreting for ministers and health officials throughout the pandemic by our Auslan interpreters.

What you can do to celebrate?

We’d like to challenge you to help raise the awareness of Auslan and the Deaf and hard of hearing community by learning how to sign “Happy International Day of Sign Languages” and sharing with your organisation via social media.

To learn how to sign “Happy International Day of Sign Languages”, please watch the video below. Make sure you give it a few goes before you film and don't forget to smile!

Once you are happy with your video, make sure you:

  1. Trim the start and end of your video.
  2. Add an end slide. We have also made an end slide that you or your team can add to the end of the video with the space to include your logo. If you would rather, there is also an option to just use our branded end slide.
  3. Schedule or post on your personal social media page or your organisation channels for Thursday, 23 September 2021 and tag Expression Australia.

By tagging Expression Australia in your social media posts, we will be able to share your videos directly with the Deaf an hard of hearing communities that we serve all around Australia.
